Ian Shea, Founder & CEO

Ian Shea

Ian is the founder and CEO of Maestro Market, and it is both his pleasure in meeting new people, and in lifelong learning, that forms the backbone of the site. Ian conceived of Maestro while seated next to Scot Schmidt, a famous extreme skier, at a banquet dinner. An avid skier himself, Ian was thrilled at this rare opportunity, even as it occurred to him that such experiences don't need to be rare at all. And so, the inspiration for Maestro Market was formed. He has MBAs from Columbia and Berkeley, and did his undergraduate work at Cornell. Originally from Rye, NY, Ian is also a proud Eagle Scout and a Rotary Youth Scholarship recipient. He says he can start a fire in the woods without matches. Verification of this claim remains pending.

He got his start with computers in the late 1970's with the Radio Shack TRS-80, slaving late into the night to write programs in BASIC using the roomy 4k of memory on the machine. He then worked all summer mowing neighborhood lawns to upgrade to 16k to accommodate his ever-expanding programs. This experience was a point of origin for his current 15 years' experience building consumer websites in a wide variety of programming languages (even, briefly, Visual BASIC) and leading... (more)

The equipment has (thankfully) changed since those early days, but his passion for all things tech remains.
